"Because Barbie can be anything, women can be anything".
Sometimes we let our own thinking get in the way of accomplishing BIG things. I wanted to create a simple pattern that would showcase this beautiful collection as a reminder that the hurdles in our life don't define who we are. We're all just "figuring it out as we go."
Empowering Prints
Barbie is a love letter to being yourself. You can go through all sorts of transitions in your life as you try to figure out what you want- and it really helps to have the support of your friends. This is one of my favourite prints of the collection because I see solidarity.
Barbie World by Riley Blake Designs deserves its very own pattern. I knew it had to be something sophisticated and simple to keep the focus on Barbie. With this free pattern, you could go with a traditional gingham style, or a subtle "basket weave" style as I've done with my pink version.
I incorporated SIX of my favourite Barbie World prints and threw in a Confetti Cotton solid to tame it down a little (all fabrics are listed in the free pattern). The FREE Posh Patchwork pattern is a simple and fast make. I went with a solid minky cuddle in white and the quilting design is called Retro Revolution Echoed. I love the structure it gives the quilt without overpowering the true star, Barbie.
There are 4 things you are going to LOVE about it:
1. Strip. Piecing. This means it comes together crazy fast!
2. The size of the squares are designed to fit NINE squares in each WOF strip with only a sliver left over. I love patterns that create minimal waste.
3. The pattern contains 4 strip set combos that are cut up and rearranged. (Are you seeing the efficiency here?) Once you have all of your strip set piles, it's just a matter of sewing the rows together to complete a block. This pattern is (1) block repeated 9 times.
4. The perfect giftable size. At 51" x 51", this gift is pretty much for anyone. It works in a nursery, or as a throw at the end of a bed. This is a grow-up-with-you size, so as an adult- it still works as a lap quilt. (And seriously, I kind of think this quilt is for Gen X-ers.... Barbie means something to us!)
Hot Pink Barbie Gingham makes the perfect binding! I love how it finishes the look.
The Teal Version
It's so fresh and striking, I had to make the teal version. This is Strip Set #1.
Step 1: Trim off selvedge. (Be precise, as there's not much room for error here).
Step 2: Cut into strips.
You will repeat this with all (4) Strip Sets. Take one of each to create a full block:
Download your free pattern: Posh Patchwork Quilt and make sure to share on social media so we can give you three cheers! #poshpatchworkquilt #cbqpatterns
I know you will love making this for the young feminists in your life! And what about a matching wall hanging?? How adorable is this?? I added corner tabs to the back so it can easily be hung with a wooden dowel. The quilting was done with a pantograph called P.S. I Love you. I think it adds such a lovely texture. Wouldn't this make a great gift!
Happy sewing everyone!
