My Newest Design, The Soulmate Quilt Has Something BIG to TELL YOU!

The Soulmate quilt will be featured in the January issue of the Make Modern Magazine in the new year. (So, we have some time to wait, but why not start planning!) I knew Melody by Bev McCullough would be the perfect fabric collection to bring the Soulmate design to life. This new Riley Blake Collection will be available in quilt shops this month!

The Soulmate Quilt was designed with hearts mirroring each other to symbolize the deep connection between two people. I used the Alpine Grande pantograph by Urban Elementz because it reminds me of fairytale florals.

You will start by constructing 4 at a time Flying Geese Units to make up the heart bottoms.

Repeat three times to make enough for 12 heart blocks.

Put it all together...

Ta-da!

Strip Piecing for a Fast Finish

The beauty of the Soulmate quilt, is its efficient design. The entire center of the quilt is strip-pieced.

Add the heart blocks + individual rectangles (above the hearts):

Fresh & Bright

The pattern requires 8 different fabrics plus a neutral for the center background and the hearts. For the ombre look, you will organize Fabrics A-H from lightest to darkest as shown above. The pattern will be available in 3 sizes: Baby, Throw & Queen. The Throw size version is shown here (and pictured on a KING size bed).

Coming in January!

"I believe that your soul and my soul are very old friends".

Be sure to get a copy of the Make Modern magazine this winter to make your own version of Soulmate. January is the perfect time to whip up something special for someone you love.... maybe even your soulmate... (which can surely be a best pal too!) Talk about the world's greatest Valentine's gift!

When I stumbled upon this photo of me with Soulmate slung over my shoulder in an attempt to get "the shot", it occurred to me I must make this into a quilt coat! The way I'm carrying it even makes it look like there is a hood too. The quilty gods are sending me a message, and I accept this challenge!!

Queen Size Version

I had to make the largest size because.... well..... I have an obsessive personality. I love an ombre effect, especially with my token favourite ditsy florals! These fabrics are on sale at Birdie and Dot Fabrics.

Here I have used the Haven Collection from Amy Sinibaldi of Art Gallery Fabrics. I love the muted look!

The Queen size version is pictured on a KING size bed, showing it would work on a larger bed- just with a little less "overhang".

Haven by Art Gallery Fabrics

Fabric A: Clayflower Sweet (lightest)

Fabric B: Gloria Blossoms

Fabric C: Lively Isabel

Fabric D: Seasons Bloom

Fabric E: Promenade Encore

Fabric F: Brushed Leaves Gris

Fabric G: Gloria Roots

Fabric H: Seasons Fall

Binding: Seasons Fall

For the backing, I used a wideback from the Windham Collection by Heather Ross: Lilac Strawberry. Ay yi yi. It was meant to be. Both quilts will be for sale soon (and always presented to our subscribers first).

Oh, and stay tuned because I will be releasing a freebie along with this pattern that will be a MUST MAKE! The idea started when I had 3 left-over strip sets in the making of the queen version (and I can't stand waste, so I whipped up a little cute something I think you'll LOVE).

If you're on the CBQ email list, you will automatically receive this freebie in January. Sign up here. Have a wonderful week!
